The Accademia Gallery is known throughout the world as the Michelangelo Museum, for the group of Prisoners and the David placed in the tribune.
Unique for its collection of gold-ground panels, it houses numerous religious paintings by painters from the end of the 13th century, by Giotto's contemporaries such as Taddeo Gaddi, Bernardo Daddi and the Orcagnas, and by leading late Gothic masters such as Giovanni da Milano and Lorenzo Monaco.
Born from the collaboration between the publisher, the Superintendence and the museum directors, each volume is accompanied by a rich coloured illustrative apparatus, with all the useful information for visiting the museum.
